Types of computer networkFrom the last Article about Definition of computer network, you got information about “What is Computer Network and “Related Information’s with Computer Network” to use in your Computer. Usually, people want to use Computer Network Connection from one place to another place for getting a better Network Connection and use the facilities from that Network Connection. Computer Network can help you to be connected with one to another Computer and get all types of facilities from the Computer Network. A network consists of two or more Computers that are linked in order to share resources such as printers, exchange files or allow electronic communications. The Computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites or infrared light beams. You should know about the Types of computer network for using it to your Computer.

Types of computer network

a) Local Area Network (LAN)

Types of computer network

The computers are geographically close together. A Local Area Network (LAN) is a network that is limited to a relatively small area. That means, when a Computer Network is attached with a Floor to another Floor in a same Building and that Computer Network is Limited to use in that Building, that time, it is called Local Area Network (LAN). In this time, your Computer Network will be Limited to use your “Building Floors” only. Other places, it will not be worked. In this time, your all Computers (Nodes) will be connected to each other with the “Data Transferring Cable”. Computers connected to a network are largely categorized as Servers or Workstations. Servers are generally not used by humans directly, but slightly run continuously to provide “Services” to the other Computers and their Human Users on the Network. Services provided can include Printing and Faxing, Software hosting, File Storage and Sharing, Messaging, Data Storage and Retrieval, Complete Access Control (Security) for the Network’s Resources and many others.

b) Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)

Types of computer network

A data network designed for a town or city. That means, when a Computer Network is attached with one area Town to another area Town, that time, it is called Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). You can use the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) to one City to another City.

c) Wide Area Network (WAN)

Types of computer network

The computers are farther apart and are connected by telephone lines or radio waves. That means, When a Computer Network is attached with more than one area Town or more than one Country, that time, it is called Wide Area Network (WAN). Wide Area Network (WAN) is a computer network that covers a broad area. It refers any network whose communications links cross Metropolitan, Regional or National boundaries or less formally, a network that uses routers and public communications links. Contracts with Local Area Networks (LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN) and Campus Area Networks (CAN) which are usually limited to a Room, Building, Campus or specific Metropolitan Area (e.g., a city respectively).

For example- “Internet” is the big example of the Wide Area Network (WAN). Wide Area Networks (WAN) connect networks in larger Geographic Areas, such as Florida, the United States or all over the world. Dedicated transoceanic cabling or satellite uplinks may be used to connect this type of Global Network.

d) Campus Area Network (CAN)

Types of computer network

The computers are within a limited geographic area, such as a “Campus” or “Military Base”.

e) Home Area Network (HAN)

Types of computer network

A network contained within a “User’s Home” that connects a person’s Computer.

1.   Network Software or Lan Card Software from “Motherboard Disk”
2.   Server Computer and Server Computer User
3.   Computers (Nodes)
4.   Internet Connection (Broadband or Modem Internet Connection)
5.   Switch or Router
6.   If you want to use Broadband Internet Connection, need Broadband Cable
7.   Connector
8.   Do Cabling
9.   Network Access Permission
10. Internet Access Permission

In this way, you can understand Types of Computer Network in your Computer.
